Outdoor Chimineas and Safety

The chimineas are a popular type of free standing outdoor fireplace that greatly reminds of a potbellied stove. They are great addition to any outdoor area, garden, patio or backyard providing the needed heat in the colder days and evenings. They also are very attractive and can enhance the beauty of this area with their design. The chimineas are also very safe to use. There are only few safety tips that need to be followed to make sure any danger is avoided.

First of all, you need to make sure that the use of chimineas outside your house is not illegal or prohibited by some state law. Since these features are self-contained they often are allowed to be used even in the states where outdoor fire pits are prohibited. But it certainly is best to check for this before purchasing the chimenea so that you will not make a wrong investment.

It may sound unnecessary to mention, but following the instructions given from the manufacturers when using the chimineas is crucial. It is essential to additionally stress the importance of their implementation because a lot of safety problems can be avoided if you stick to them.

When placing the chimenea look for a place where there are no shrubs or brunches that will hang over it, because they are immediate fire hazard. Also, it is very important to place the chimenea on a flat and stable surface so that there is no risk of it tipping over and damaging itself. If you use your chimenea on your patio, it is recommended to place it on a three foot parameter bricks, or on a specially designed fire pit pad that will protect the deck and its shine from the embers and the ash.

When used the chimineas get very hot and if there are children playing around it, it is best to use protective screens which are specially designed for these purposes. Also, you should always keep useful tools, such as poker, tongs, brush and a small shovel, close to hand. In case of emergency, you will also need a bucket full of water and a pair of thick heavy duty gloves. And never start the fire with petrol or some similar starter. Instead, always use firelighters for this purpose.

If you follow these simple and logical safety instructions you will never have problems while using your chimenea.
