How to Cook On a Fire Pit
Food cooked on an outdoor fire pit is really delicious. It brings that special taste to the food everyone adores. No arguments with that. Fire pits are significantly wider and can accommodate more food at once. But, what is the best way to cook food using a fire pit?
Certain kinds of wood, like hickory, are best for fire pit cooking because their smoke imparts the food with a very distinctive taste. If for any reason, you can’t use wood, charcoal will be good enough. You will also need some longer metal skewers on which you’ll place the food. Get the fire going for awhile, so you have hot flames which will cook the food quickly and thoroughly, but watch it so the food won’t get burned, but get those nice char marks on it. Meats, fish, seafood, and vegetables taste juicy and fantastic when cooked like this.
As a nice addition to the main dish you can also roast some corn on your backyard firepit. When the coals are heated place the corns still in their husks, and turn them from time to time, until the husks start to blacken. Leave them to cool a bit, pull off the husks, and serve with salt, pepper, and butter.
As a dessert, you can roast marshmallows or make s’mores. You can use the cooking skewers or maybe place the marshmallows on twigs and cook them like on a campfire.
If you want to prepare something different and delicious for your family and friends, fire pit cooking may be just for you.
