First of all you should check with your government unit. They may have its own rules about how close a fire pit can be place to your house, but all things considered, it is best to put one at least 25 to 40 feet away from your house or buildings if it is a wood burning fire pit.
You may walk away from your fire pit on a windy day and see sparks flying toward your home. The further it is away from you home the better your chances are to put out any potential fires. Safety is more important than convenience.
Do you want your fire pit closer to your house? Consider these options to make is safer.
1-Please a mesh fire pit screen or spark guard screen over your fire to prevent sparks from leaving your pit. The Oil Rubbed Bronze Fire Pit w/ Criss-Cross Design is a great example of the screen you would want.
2- Consider a gas fire pit. With these you have no spark concerns.
3- Use a propane fire fit. Again no sparks.
As you can see, the safest is the gas or propane fire pit. They can sit right on your deck if you like much closer than 25-40 away. To see some gas fire pits for sale, click here.
