You can view the DIY instructions here. With a little elbow grease, spray paint, and a cheap lamp, Funkytime transformed a chimenea into a lighted indoor display. In this case, the owner moved into a small apartment without an outdoor area to use her chimenea, so she decided to incorporate it into her home. Since chimeneas have a very durable metal construction, they can last as outdoor heating sources for years upon end. But, if you decide that it would be more useful indoors, this is a good idea, instead of throwing it away.

It will definitely add character to your home. Because of the long chimney design for directing smoke, a light fixture is easily install within. The metal construction makes it easy to paint, and the texture and design will accent your indoors. Another eye-catching idea would be, instead of painting the chimenea, you could decorate it in a mosaic manner. Take sandpaper and rough up the surface of the metal so that the mosaic grout will attach more easily, and then apply the grout at about 1/2″ thick. Then, take your glass or stone tiles and gently press it into the grout in a pattern of your choosing. This gives you much more creative license, and it is an easy way to give this chimenea stand a royal look. Trust me, your friends will be impressed!
