Should you Install Flat Screen TV above the Fireplace?

It is kind of a trend nowadays to install a flat screen TV above an existing indoor fireplace. But is this a smart thing to do, if we consider that we are mixing technology with fire that way? Here are some points we need to observe, especially since they are given from professionals that have had hundreds of such placement plans:

Be Aware of the Height

People tend to forget that when they place the TV above the fireplace it might be too high for them to comfortably watch it. This may not be such an issue if the fireplace is shorter, but in most cases, what they recommend is a TV mount that you can tilt downwards when used, and push backwards when not.

Make Sure that such Placement Blends with the Living Room

Nothing should be forced. If it is, it will stick out and get noticed leaving negative impression. If you want a cozy living room, don’t put a giant TV on the wall. It will look more like it is a home theater. If you still want a wall-mounted TV, consider other options for your home décor: add a couple of bookshelves around it to get the focus out of the TV, or consider buying a media fireplace that is specially designed for that purpose.

Carefully Plan Everything

It is not only the TV that gets on the wall. There is mounting equipment, wire management, proper power allocation, sound equipment, that you’ll also need to consider. It is better to plan everything ahead, before you are in too deep.
