Fire GlassFire Glass will Decorate your Gas Fire Pit or Bowl
Fire glass is perfect to decorate your gas fire pit or for adding a little something to your fireplace. It is commonly used to bring vibrance and life to your gas fire pits and fireplaces. Made of the highest quality glass, it will not melt, degrade or emit toxic fumes. Nor will it create soot, ash or smoke. The beautiful colors of fire glass will most certainly show off your personal style. Today's fire pit glass is available in a huge assortment of colors and shapes. We currently have 75 different offerings of lava rock, fireplace glass, and fire beads. Sizes range from 1/4 to 1/2 inch. What is fire glass? It is tempered glass that has been processed in one of several ways. One way is to melt tempered glass, add special dyes to it, and pressure mold it so that no air bubbles are trapped within. Beads manufactured in this manner can withstand temperatures up to 1300°. The second method manufacturers utilize is to temper glass in a manner that allows them to withstand the extraordinarily high temperatures they will be exposed to. During this process they are colored. They are then tumbled, to remove any sharp edges. Does fire pit glass have to be replaced? No. It will likely last longer than your fire pit or fire place. Does fire glass generate heat? Yes. It will generate three or four times more radiant heat than artificial logs that can sometimes block the radiant heat being disbursed by gas fire pits and fire places. Will it discolor? No. Fire glass maintains its color, although it may become soiled with dust. Stirring glass beads can help, but beads can also be removed and washed in dish soap, as long as they are thoroughly rinsed and allowed to dry. What about Lava Rock? Although lava rock is a great filler for the bottom of gas-powered fire pits, it does not radiate heat in the same way as fire glass. Nonetheless, it is valued as a filler and then you can place glass on top to add color. |
