Their radiant heat is absorbed by our clothes, humidity, furniture and room elements.

Infrared works best for a patio heater that is set up in a warm part of the room and aimed toward a cooler area. Unlike forced air heaters, drafts directing flow do not improve dispersion. Sometimes a bit of experimentation is necessary. Changes in air movement definitely affect the distance infrared permeates into a room. When warming an area set the infrared heater high enough that it can permeate to all areas, then lower the setting to maintain that disbursement.

Halogen Patio Heaters

Halogen heaters direct warmth through the auspices of a halogen bulb. Light is the heating source, therefore only those objects directly in the path of the light are warmed. Halogen heaters are often outfitted with oscillation. That means that air is directed from behind the bulb and oscillates the heated air outward. Oscillating halogen heaters are most often used indoors.

The advantages of using halogen patio heaters is in their design. Hanging lamps or table lamps provide just enough heat for guests to lean into or away from the heat source. Many people prefer this self-regulated method of temperature comfort to the radiant effects of infrared, which tends to permeate the entire environment.

Propane and Gas Patio Heaters

Propane fueled heaters radiate heat in much the same way as a fire. They can be set to a higher or lower setting - depending upon how much heating is desired.
