What Makes You Cool

Ever since she turned 13 he has never been able to impress her. She thinks he’s old. She thinks he’s boring. She thinks he can’t possibly ever have had a cool moment in his whole life. She thinks he is a dork. Yet, he still tries. He tries to make her see his inherent coolness. He tries to show her that person he was in high school when everyone thought he was cool. He tries, but he always seems to fail.

Poking at the fire he wonders if he will ever be cool to her – the only one he even cares about thinking he is cool. He flips the logs carelessly and prompts the flames.

“Hey, Dad. What’s up? Is that new? That is so cool. Did you pick that out? Cool.”

As she walks away he stands there in amazement. All it took was not trying at all. He is finally cool. Way to go Dad.
