Her Baby
I was too young when I had him, but he’s my baby and I am thankful everyday that
he came into my life. Things haven’t always been easy, but as I watch the glow
of the fire bounce on his soft cheek as he lays here in my lap, I can’t help but
feel overwhelmed with love.
I may not have known what I was doing when he was born. We’ve had many nights
crying each other to sleep. I struggled to pay the bills, and we’ve eaten
hotdogs and macaroni and cheese for dinner one too many times. We’ve earned
moments like this. Enjoying a fire in the haven of our small backyard.
I’ve done my best to give him everything. I love him with a love so strong that
nobody can break that bond. One day he’ll grow up and some girl will steal him
away from me; but for tonight he’s still my baby.
