Cherish the Time

The crackling fire is a nice addition to the lively atmosphere. We are all together as a family, for the first time in a long time. My teenage son and daughter have somehow found time to spend with their old dad. It seems moments like these are far and few between these days.

They used to be here all the time. I used to wish for some peace and quiet. I would breathe a sigh of relief when my wife said they were staying with friends for the evening. It wasn’t that I didn’t want them around; it’s just that a little breather now and then was a nice thing.

I watch as they laugh and talk. I cherished the time we spent together when they were little. I cherish the moments we catch now. They grow up so fast. I guess all I can do now is cherish this night, here by the fire.
