There was a time when I wanted to be anywhere but where I was. To roam. To travel. To explore.

Now I’m here. We have our really hot days and our really cold days. The sunsets here are brilliant. The air is clean and the people are pretty dang nice.

I can’t say I think I’d want to be somewhere else. Not even when there is a foot of snow on the ground or when the humidity is so high you have to find air conditioning or be stuck in the miserable stickiness. I don’t think anywhere else could offer me what I get right here at home.

I slip into cool summer nights by stoking the fire pit and inviting the neighbors over. I hold out the cooler weather by tasting a few marshmallows for my sister’s kids around the same pit. There was a time when I needed to be anywhere but here. No more.
